Parfait – two events, one night

Join Parfait Ice Cream’s chef/owner Adria Shimada for an evening of ice cream education at Dish it Up! in Ballard on Wednesday, August 31 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. where she reveals the secrets to her sensational ice cream (hint: all organic, seasonal and local [as in right in Ballard, local] ingredients).

Students will learn how to make Blackberry Beauty, Fiore French Roast, Ballard Bee Honey and Apricot Sorbet from scratch in small batches, just like she does for Parfait.

Class instruction includes important techniques like egg tempering, cooking custards properly and how to prevent icy ice cream. To sign up for Adria’s class and for more information visit http://www.dish-it-up.com.

If you’d rather just devour Adria’s signature flavors, head over to Tom Douglas’ Ice Cream Social Happy Hour at the Palace Ballroom that night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m, as Parfait joins the city’s best ice cream purveyors for an evening of sweet, cold samples.

$15 gets attendees samples from each vendor, entertainment and access to a full bar. For more info on the Ice Cream Social Happy Hour and to purchase tickets visit www.tomdouglas.com.

Parfait at Sur la Table

Learn how to make ice cream from a pro! Pastry chef and Parfait organic, artisan, from-scratch ice cream maker, Adria Shimada, will be at Sur la Table in Kirkland on July 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. to teach you all you need to know about the basics of ice cream and sorbet making!

“Adria’s passion led to an internship at Amy’s bread in New York, a stint at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, work at the nationally renowned Greens restaurant, and a job as a pastry chef at the Bay Area’s celebrated La Farine bakery. For years, Adria dreamed of opening her own business. Ice cream being the best food in the world (tied only perhaps with French fries, chocolate, or a really good salade Nicoise), she wanted to create ice cream that embraces the same made-from-scratch integrity as that of a fine French bakery.”

Class price is $59, and seats are going fast, so register online here or by calling 800-243-0852. If you can’t make the class, but can’t resist a great scoop, the Parfait truck will be open for business right outside the Kirkland Sur la Table that same night serving up seasonal ice cream in cups and signature hand rolled cones!
